Scar on forehead

Postby Amrita » Wed Sep 08, 2010 3:19 pm

Hello Dr Lam,

I really like your site. It has a lot of informaton and I also like that we can ask you questions regarding our problems. I am 30 year old female. I has suffered from a disease a year ago called as Herpis which is close to chicken pox. It looked like a burn mark before but later it started healing and left me with an ugly scar right on the top of my right eyebrow. Could you suggest what surgery is best for me and also would like to know how much it would cost to get rid of the scar. I am uploading one of my picture so that you can closely look at it and guide me. It is frustrating. Please help. Thanks!! Amrita

hi,
given the severity of your injury, my recommendation would be most likely preoperative botox to minimize stretch back done 2 weeks before if you live in dallas if not the day before followed by excision with geometric broken line repair if there is not much tension followed 3 months later by dermabrasion. hope that helps as a start. thanks for sharing your image.
best,

Dr Lam,

Thank you so much for your advice. I really would like to get rid of this scar but I would also like to know how much would my treatment cost. I stay in Dallas. With the treatment you have mentioned will the scar completely be vanished. I was suggested by my local skin specialist to go for plastic surgery where he would take one part of my skin and then place it on the wound so that it will be covered but there will be a minimal stitch mark so I was not sure what to do. I know you are a well-known surgeon so i would rather get the treatment done by you. Could you tell me a little bit about Botox and Dermabrasion.

Thanks,
Amrita

i don't have a perfect estimate for cost until i see you in person but it would be a few thousand to do the job right. that does not include botox cost which would be several hundred but it does include dermabrasion afterward. botox is used to limit the wound from stretching back which is very important for the wound to heal well. dermabrasion is to sand down any rough edges that may still be present after a few months. no, there will always be a "scar" there. my goal is to make it much harder to see from a normal social distance. that is what a scar revision is all about. watch this video to understand better:
