swollen cheeks due to allergies?

Postby lonestar210 » Sat Sep 04, 2010 2:02 am

Hello Dr. Lam
I am a 31 year old female and I am unhappy with a line that goes from the corner of my eyes across the cheek area. I asked my plastic surgeon about a filler but he said that it might make it worse. He said I was too young and he would wait until I was older and do a cheek lift to correct it. I value his opinion, but I would like a second opinion as well. He also said that it might be caused by allergies, however I have had them since I can remember(father has them too). Is there any alternative procedure that can help? I look young for my age but these lines do appear to age me. Thank you in advance.
Michelle :)

if you are talking about a line that runs from the inner corner of your eye outward to the outer lower cheek then you are referring to the malar ligament and i fill this every day for people as they get older. if you have a strong ligament and something you have had since a young age sometimes it is difficult to improve the situation and in rare cases could worsen it. i would have to see it. in general, with fillers i have over a 90% chance of improving it but again i would have to see your situation. could it be due to allergies? only if they are discolored and change and fluctuate. those are called allergic shiners. i would again have to see your situation and take a more detailed history.
best,
