Too much?

This section of the forum is dedicated to discussions on various surgical techniques for facial rejuvenation, including fat transfer/fat grafting, browlift, blepharoplasty (cosmetic eyelid surgery), facelift, etc. Also, this category includes questions on hand rejuvenation via fat grafting. (Of note, Dr. Lam does not perform body rejuvenation except for hand fat grafting)

Too much?

Hello Dr. Lam thank you so much for providing this message board and for your expertise, it is greatly appreciated! I wish I had found you and this board before I booked and paid for my fat grafting surgery with another surgeon, argh! I am across the country and didn't find you until I went online to do some pre-surgery research. Anyway, I am a thin 38 year-old female with general gauntness of the face. Not extreme but definately premature. I believe I need full face fat grafting. The surgeon wants to transfer 100 ccs. That did not seem unreasonable to me until I went online and could not find anyone (not one person) who has had that much transferred. Realizing that this is over 3 oz, it seems like an awful lot for a patient who just has moderate hollowing/guantness. Could you please give me your opinion on this, I am very scared of getting overfilled or looking unnatural. I'm also afraid that the healing time will be terrible. Thank you so much!

honestly, that sounds like a lot. for someone your age, i typically transfer about 20 cc. for someone who is older i can use 45 cc. in someone 65 years old and super super super gaunt i may use 55 cc. my colleagues who are more aggressive than i am use about 60 to 70 in someone over 45 years old. your volume sounds pretty high in my opinion. i would definitely ask to see long-term results for someone your age with that kind of volume, and make sure you like the work. to me the artistry and safety are the two most important things. at 38 years of age, the fat graft must age well with you over time. conservative volumes in my opinion tends to age much better.
best,
sml
