cortisone induced fat atrophy

Postby rusty777 » Sun Aug 01, 2010 8:05 pm

Dr. Lam
I had an intraoral chin reduction in april. I was given intraoral cortisone shots 2 wks post surgery and at the end of may. I now have a horizonal indentation line about an inch long on my chin. I haveresearched atrophy and I had the small indention first that spread with time. My doctor said to wait it out and it should resolve. I am very depressed. I have read about success with saline injections. I want to try it. There seems to be no risk involved. Would this be a viable alternative. If not what would you recommend. Thanks for any advice you can give me.

first, i would go by your surgeon's recommendations not mine. that is only fair to him/her since you are in the early phases of healing. second, i have seen these atrophies heal over the first year. third, i have never heard of saline used to correct these problems only for acne scars and i am not convinced how effective it is. if your area does not fix after the first year, i could do some silicone corrections to fix it should be easily. in the mean time restylane or other fillers could stent the area until it heals. that may be safer but again ask your physician not me about everything.
best,
sml

Thank you. Would restylane be your filler of choice. Also how long before I can consider the filler. This is the first thing you see when you look at me. The indention is narrow but about an inch wide.
Would a filler cause bumps as the healing takes place. Thanks again for your advice.

i would ask your surgeon first. but i don't have a problem doing it whenever to be honest with you. restylane is my choice.
