Asian freckle/hyperpimentation problem

Postby Phan » Sun Jul 11, 2010 12:11 am

Hi Dr.lam
I am asian and have a huge freckle problem. The freckles are black and I have tried several things and none have worked. I have tried laser therapy to remove the spots, the darker ones I have lasered up to 5 times and they always returned. I went to a dermatologist once, she suggested chemical peels, only that burned my face off leaving bad scars also, because of the peel, more and more spots appeared. I have also tried various bleaching creams, microdermabrasion. No one I've found seems to understand Asian skin. Is there a treatment for my problem?? The older I get, the more spots appear. I use SPF and do all the recommendations, nothing is working

hmm, i really do not have an answer for you, not one that you would want to hear at least. the only thing i feel is safe would be a laser that is specific for brown and done by a skilled person. unfortunately, i always say "skin is a process" whatever caused the freckle in the first place (sun, hormones, etc.) will cause it again. you may have to look at it as an expense for maintenance. just like you have to shower, work out, eat right, and brush your teeth every day if you want to live long. if you did it for a while then stopped, you will lose some of the benefits of when you did it. changing your perception of the "problem" may be the best first step.
best,
