Need another professional opinion 2

Postby sallysmartypants » Wed Jun 02, 2010 8:23 pm

Sorry Im trying to make this as short as possible . He is now saying he might have to graft skin over the scar after everything is done healing. Have you ever heard of a situation like this? I expressed my feelings about how things have turned out and he offered to a revision surgery to put the ears back again. I am thinking about doing it but it wont be for months. I need to really evaluate everything first before I make any kind of decision and want to get others opinions. So my question to you is if i decide to have a revision should I stick with my doctor or try and find someone who specializes in this particular procedure? Does wearing a headband at night help with keeping its shape after all this time? Sorry for the overload thank you for your time i look forward to hearing back

hi,
first, i am sorry to hear what happened to you. i don't know about grafting a scar for otoplasty but i have grafted ear scars for cancer reconstruction. generally skin grafts on the ear do well but of course, i would have to see your situation in person to know. ears can relax over time. i do see this even in my own patients although this is typically on the much lower end of the spectrum but still can happen. the headband will not do anything to help unfortunately. i cannot speak about another surgeon's work or whether you need to see a specialist. fortunately, i am one of the few surgeons who performs an otoplasty almost every other week or so. but i cannot guarantee results. i am also a human being besides a surgeon. hope you find the right answer for you. :)
best,
sml
