Couple of Questions

This section of the forum is dedicated to discussions on various surgical techniques for facial rejuvenation, including fat transfer/fat grafting, browlift, blepharoplasty (cosmetic eyelid surgery), facelift, etc. Also, this category includes questions on hand rejuvenation via fat grafting. (Of note, Dr. Lam does not perform body rejuvenation except for hand fat grafting)

Couple of Questions

Postby present-tense » Wed Jan 02, 2008 6:36 am

Hi Dr. Lam, just a few quick questions here hope thats ok:

1) What do you feel is appropriate to treat visible veins in the tear trough area. My skin is quite thin and i can see some noticable veins showing through, most of them red and 1 long blue vein. Do you think fat grafting can sometimes help to hide them (assuming one needs fat grafting for hollows anyway, I wouldn't think it appropriate to place fat in an already plump area just to hide veins)

2) If one has fat grafting for hollows to the tear trough area but is still vascular, can any lasers help (such as IPL for instance). If yes how soon after fat grafting can this be done and which lasers do you think are most effective

3)Unrelated to the previous questions, what do you think of Retin-A? Specifically for thin skin, do you feel that it has any merit in helping to thicken skin, or just generally improve texture?

Thanks for your help, your website is wonderful, always informative and interesting even when reading about topics unrelated to one's own needs!

Hi, your answers are in all caps following the questions:

1) What do you feel is appropriate to treat visible veins in the tear trough area. My skin is quite thin and i can see some noticable veins showing through, most of them red and 1 long blue vein. Do you think fat grafting can sometimes help to hide them (assuming one needs fat grafting for hollows anyway, I wouldn't think it appropriate to place fat in an already plump area just to hide veins)
THIS IS REALLY HARD TO TAKE CARE OF FOR TWO REASONS. ONE, LASERS ARE UNSAFE TOO CLOSE TO THE EYE AND THE SKIN IS SO THIN. SECOND, MOST WOMEN SEE THINGS OTHERS DON'T BECAUSE THEY ARE TOO CLOSE TO A MIRROR MEANING THAT WHATEVER IS DONE TO IMPROVE IT MAY NOT SATISFY A PATIENT WHO REALLY CLOSELY LOOKS AT HERSELF EVERY DAY. REMEMBER, THE GOAL IS TO MAKE OTHERS LOOKING AT YOU THINK YOU LOOK AMAZING.

THAT BEING SAID, I THINK FAT GRAFTING CAN HELP BUT THAT WOULD BE NO GUARANTEE OR PROMISE. FAT SOMETIMES CREATES A LOCAL SKIN CHANGE THAT CAN MAKE THE COLORING LOOK BETTER. I HAVE SEEN THAT BUT I NEVER SELL IT TO TAKE CARE OF THE VEINS BECAUSE A LOT OF TIMES IT DOES NOTHING FOR THE VEINS.

RETIN-A IS EXCELLENT TO HELP SKIN BUT YOU NEED TO MAINTAIN IT. OTHER SKIN CARE PRODUCTS HELP TOO IN CONJUNCTION WITH RETIN-A.
