flesh colored mole in eyebrow

Postby rl826 » Thu Apr 01, 2010 11:07 pm

Dr. Lam,
I have a raised, flesh colored mole on the inside corner of my left eyebrow, right where the eyebrow begins. I have had it for as long as I can remember, but it seems to be getting larger as I get older (I'm 29 now) and is now about the size of a pencil eraser. I have been to a dermatologist who said that he didn't think it should be removed because of the location (near a central vein in the forehead) and because of scarring issues (in an awkward location that would draw the eye more than the mole). He said if I were to get it done, I would need to consult a plastic surgeon. I understand what he is saying and realize I should probably take his advice, but...I HATE this mole. What kind of successes have you had with moles in the eyebrows? I will send a picture tomorrow so you can see what I'm talking about and whether you think anything can be done for me. I live in Fort Worth, so I'm in the area. Thanks in advance for any help!

i would probably burn it off because if you excise it you risk changing the hair follicle angles. i would have to see it.

i reviewed your photo. my feeling is to do this in 3 phases:
1. shave and burn it off to shrink the length of the necessary incision.
2. wait 3 to 6 months to see where things heal, perform a very narrow excision along a relaxed skin tension line with preoperative botox to minimize stretchback.
3. dermabrasion 3 months after the excision for better refinement.
we can talk about that further during a consultation if you should so desire.
best,

Thanks very much for your insights. I would definitely be interested to know more. I do want to let you know, however, that this procedure would have to be put off for a while. I would need to save up for it, so it wouldn't be occurring immediately after consultation. Given that, should I wait for a consultation or should I go ahead and schedule one?
