Question about Permanent fillers

This section of the forum is dedicated to discussions on managing, treating, and correcting acne scarring. (Of note, Dr. Lam is focused principally on acne scarring rather than on managing the ongoing condition of acne, which a dermatologist would be better equipped to address.)

Question about Permanent fillers

Postby cr193878 » Tue Mar 02, 2010 10:00 pm

Dr. Lam,

A few months back, a cyst developed on the side of my face just to the side of my right eye. My doctor put me on some medication and after a couple of months, it finally went away and I no longer feel any traces of it left. However, I was left with what I consider to be a sizable depression on the side of my face. I am wanting to use a permanent filler such as silicone to even it out and was wondering if that was a good option for me. I have attached pics. Thanks!

if no kenalog injection was done (in which sometimes things improve over a year), then i would consider a permanent fill with silicone. i would typically wait at least 6 months from injury to make sure that nothing is improving from the original injury.
best,

No kenalog injection here and it's been since October that the cyst finally subsided. This is great news! I've already made an appointment to come to your office in April. See you then!

I know it's going to take 2 to 3 sessions with the silicone, so I was wondering what kind of bruising/discoloration I can expect after each session. Also, the scar is a slightly darker shade than the rest of my skin tone, so is there anything that can be done to even that out or is it something that will get better over time? Thanks!

1. there is always a chance of bruising but hopefully that won't happen. i pre-ice for about a minute to minimize that chance.
2. color is something very hard to fix. let me see it to give you better suggestions.
