several nose issues

several nose issues

Postby eric » Tue Feb 23, 2010 8:22 pm

Hi Dr. Lam,
My name is Eric and I am currently dealing with several scar and bump issues on or around my nose:
1) In December of 2008, I applied white vinegar to a raised bump on the right side of my nose every morning and night for about a week (the bump was from a very bulbous pimple-like lesion that popped, leaving a hypertrophic scar). I read on the internet that vinegar flattened raised bumps on the nose. It successfully did, but now I'm left with hard, pink scar tissue. My current dermatologist has used steroid injections on the area once a month for 3 months, but it hasn't really done anything. Do you think a different form of scar revision might be necessary to minimize the appearance of the scar?
2) I also had a bump on the tip of my nose that my dermatologist cut into for a biopsy. The biopsy came back negative for any sort of disease, but now there is a dark spot/indentation. Would anything be possible to minimize this?
3) The third issue is that I have several bumps on and around my nose. I believe these formed out of scar tissue from previous acne, or are enlarged pores. My current dermatologist said he intends to use a KTP laser to try to get rid of them. I'm wondering if you believe this will be effective, or if you have a different way of working with these bumps.

I'm not really sure how these nose issues even came about. I've had acne pretty much as long as I can remember, but it's never left any scars that I've noticed until the middle of 2008.

If you would like me to provide pictures I'll gladly take a few and send them over. Thanks so much for your time. I can also schedule a trip to Texas, no issue.

Eric

hi,
to be honest, this sounds beyond me. i would love to help you but i typically don't manage little pink or white bumps. maybe start with your derm to see if he/she can help. i have no idea really if KTP would do it. sorry, this is something that i believe a derm is better equipped to handle.
best,

Thanks for the quick reply. I watched your video (located here: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jSu41PGHdG4) and was hoping the techniques you explained might be able to help the first issue I mentioned? Any info would be great. Many thanks in advance.

thanks for the reference. however, based on your explanation of the first point, i don't have enough information to make a solid response. i would have to see it in person to really have any idea. in my opinion it is not worth your coming to me to just try to answer point 1 because i may not have any real solutions. i am sorry about that.
best,
