Postby mauve0002 » Sat Feb 13, 2010 10:47 am

hello Dr Lam,
I have been concerned about the small dark round moles that have been appearing on my face and chest...no they are not cancerous and they are NOT freckles they are raise..u can see them on top on the skin. they are fairly small, but i've noticed that they are getting larger day by day i think its genetic but i wasnt born with ANY raised moles..is there anyhing you can do to help?

Thanks.

if they are raised, a laser that just works on color (like an IPL or other non-ablative laser) will not work. you will most likely need them either excised or shaved. if they are on the body and chest, those areas tend to heal very poorly especially if an incision is made. If it is on the chest, you might consider trying one using a shave technique to make sure the area does not turn into a problem. even white people keloid on the chest. just speak with a dermatologist first to make sure nothing is bad. sometimes in life we have to choose what may be the safer option rather than the most desirable cosmetic procedure.
best,

thanks for the quick response
yes they are raise and they are round..i have visited a dermatologist and she basically said yup it happens and you can get then removed but they could come back but sometimes they don't. i have seen friends who have this mostly africans americans and its usuall around they eyes and neck. i have them on arounf my eyes and chest. they all just randomly appeared like the same time period...i just want to remove the major ones not every single mole.

if you are african american, your risk profile just went up a lot of notches. i personally would not touch them but of course i would have to see them in person. my suggestion is to seek a qualified dermatologist and only do a single test to make sure you do not have a regretful problem by doing all of them at once.
