Heavy Jawline/Chin

This section of the forum is dedicated to discussions on various surgical techniques for facial rejuvenation, including fat transfer/fat grafting, browlift, blepharoplasty (cosmetic eyelid surgery), facelift, etc. Also, this category includes questions on hand rejuvenation via fat grafting. (Of note, Dr. Lam does not perform body rejuvenation except for hand fat grafting)

Heavy Jawline/Chin

Postby trentp » Fri Feb 12, 2010 6:44 am

Some of the patients appear to have a wider/heavier jawline after fat transfer. Is there a reason for this?

Looking face on to this image, the bottom left and right of her face appears somewhat wider - http://lamfacialplastics.com/gallery2/v ... 3.png.html

Also in these few others - http://lamfacialplastics.com/gallery2/v ... 5.png.html

Please do not take this as criticism.

Thanks

yes, no criticism taken. please look at your own photos in your late 20s. you will see that your jawline is blended into your face. as we get older we start to have isolated jowls and a pointy chin. we start to lose volume to our upper chin region. that is why i use fat transfer to blend in the chin. watch this video and focus on the concept of the upside down U:

Thanks for the response. No telling how I will look in my late 20's, still suffering from fat loss from IPL that I had done Dec 2008. I didn't suffer any loss in the chin or lower jaw area, just mainly mid cheeks(left mainly). Do you always put fat in the chin and lower jaw?

i don't always but i generally do. obviously, if you don't need it there, there would be no point. however, many people do not think they need it there until i see them. i would have to see your situation to decide. sorry to hear of the IPL situation. when it settles down and stabilizes, i look forward to help you.

After fat transfer is there anything that can be done to actually stop retention of fat in the jawline due to the jawline looking wider than the temples?

no, but the goal is to discuss with you what you want and what you don't want. i will work with you on that. i can obviously put less in the jawline if you are worried that i can't match a very hollow temple out (which i can't). hollow temples can be improved but not as well eliminated smoothly as the jawline.

How do you add fat to the jawline? I've read about how it's injected into the muscle? Is that so there is better retention?

injecting it into the muscle does not add more retention. microdroplet placement is all that you need.
