Fat transfer in muscle area or elsewhere?

Postby paulina94 » Wed Feb 10, 2010 4:24 pm

Dear Dr Lam

Do you use the FAMI technique, or transfer fat in the muscle area, or do you inject in elsewhere? The reason I ask is because fat needs a blood supply to survive and I read the best place for a good blood supply is in the muscle?

Also, when correcting fat atrophy to the buccal area do you ever do the transfer from inside the mouth for volume? This is an area I am missing volume due to a steriod injection. The rest of the my is cheek is plump and youthful, but that area lost volume. I understand you dont spot treat.

Thanks for your time.

as far as FAMI, i don't do it and do not believe you need to do it. i have great retention by putting my microdroplets in along multiple planes. in fact, i would not want more retention. it would be too much. i know how much to put in to get what kind of result.

you are correct that i do not do spot touch ups especially inside the mouth but if the dent is in the skin and it is part of a larger buccal loss then i can work to blend it in. hope that makes sense.
best wishes,
sml

Great. So the muscle provide too much retention?

Also, what if I wanted to receive a resurfacing laser treatment as well for wrinkles and some scars? How far apart would you need between the laser and fat transfer? Or could they be doen at the same time?

Many thanks!

actually, no, the muscle injections typically provide LESS retention of fat. they are in short not as effective. the laser treatment can be done the same time as the fat and there are no problems with the fat graft.
