bumps on nose

Postby siangal07 » Sun Feb 07, 2010 3:56 am

Hi Doctor Lam,

First of all, thank you for sharing your expertise so generously. I know this website through your videos in youtube, they are very clear and informative.

I had cystic acnes on my nose when i was 17. I'm now 22. The acne left bumps on my nose. they are round, firm, raised, skin colour, 0.6cm in diameter, and they have pores on them. some doctors said they are some sort of whitehead that stayed dormant for years while some said they are hypertrophic scars left by the acne. they also told me different ways of treating it. I have spent quite some money on consultation alone, but due to the varying opinions I do not want make a hasty decision on which method i should use to treat them. Do they fit the bill of hypertrophic scar? and is there some kind of test I can have to determine what exactly are they? Thanks a million!!

regards,
Faye Koh

hi,
i believe that i am familiar with your situation. it is a hard thing to treat. i actually do not think they fit a classic definition of hypertrophic scarring, although some might disagree with me. i have treated them by burning them down with a hot loop cautery. i can only get about a 30 to 50% improvement. they are hard to manage. i wish i had an easy solution. obviously, this is based on not seeing you but just having you describe it. i am glad this forum is helping you.
best,
sml
