Am I a candidate?

This section of the forum is dedicated to discussions addressing linear scars, depressed scars, keloid scars, hypertrophic scars, and other facial reconstructive topics. (Of note, Dr. Lam no longer accepts medical insurance so he rarely manages cancer reconstruction or trauma anymore.)

Am I a candidate?

Postby Ags » Fri Jan 22, 2010 11:00 pm

Dr. Lam,

Approximately 20 years ago I had a mole removed from my left cheek. Since that time, my scar has been raised and pink in color. I believe it is a Keloid scar. I find it to be difficult to shave around and do not like the way it looks. Is this something you may be able to remove/reduce/treat/etc.? I have attempted to upload two pictures for your reference. Thanks in advance.

it looks quite large. if it bleeds easily or has grown, you should check with your dermatologist to make sure this is not a skin cancer rather than a mole that was shaved in the past. if the dermatologist thinks that it is just a scar, then yes it can be worked on. however, you really should see a dermatologist first on a timely basis.
best,
