Mole Removal - Thoughts?

Postby BluePlanet » Sun Jan 10, 2010 7:45 pm

Hi Dr. Lam,

Thanks for all the great information on your site. I have searched all over the internet for helpful mole removal info. and have found more helpful, authoritative detail here than anywhere else - by far.

I've attached two photos of a good-sized mole near my lip. One picture is a relaxed face and the other is smiling so you can see the smile lines. Unfortunately, the mole doesn't line up with those lines. Anyway, wanted to get your take on potential removal options. My concern, of course, if that the resulting line attendant with a full excision will be more noticeable than the mole itself, especially considering the location. Wondering if a shave or cauterization would ever make sense in this case.

Many thanks for any thoughts you might have.

[follow up: just noticed that the pictures seem huge on the posting page, but you can't actually see the mole because of the way the software works. Let me know if I need to send the pics separately, or if you can in some way download the files for better viewing]

something that i have been doing over the past couple of years that has been good is to do a shave and a burn and keep reducing it in size (as needed) until an incision is needed to finish the job. that way the incision line can be as limited as possible. that may work for you but you have to find a dedicated surgeon to do it for you that way. if you don't live in dallas, i couldn't do it for you because it would require too many visits. glad you have found my site helpful. remember that i cannot give you direct medical advice, just general principles.
best,

Thanks Dr. Lam. I live in Dallas so that wouldn't be a problem. Are you saying that you could do the shave/burning, or are you recommending someone else?

i am recommending a shave/burn followed by 6 months follow, then possible shave/burn, followed by 6 months follow, then possible either dermabrasion or excision at that point. all of that is included as one cost. i just think the best results will be in stages. sorry to make a mountain out of a mole hill so to speak. if you are interested, contact my office for pricing and scheduling. 972-312-8188.
best,
