Cleft Lip Problem

Postby ftnt » Wed Jan 06, 2010 5:26 pm

Hello Dr. Lam,
Thanks for giving chance to ask questions.

I was a cleft liped born baby and had plenty of surgeries. Final one was 3 and a half month ago. My cleft on left side and Im 26.
Here is my problem. I had had the last surgery because of my cleft lip nose and lip couldnt been corrected but I was not unhappy just a little sad and always had a hope but since last one I am so unhappy.
I had 2 problems only but now I have 7 and I cant get rid of idea of I cant be fixed again and thinking on starting theraphy.

Here are problems;
1) doctor added tutoplast on my cheek!! yes my cheek not under nasal mouth area somewhere so 1st of all now I have a very asymetric face and my left side seems like cat, soo puffed up and it hasnt lowered a bit down.
2) now my right side of nose bone has a very bad looking (sorry I cant express correctly but its wrongly treated I guess because seems so bent down to one side and has two different bone apparaence, I can send u my pics)
3)I had no problem with scar, I was so used to it but he did something and now its so hard and so seemable. Even sent me to fraxel but it mede scar much more visible and hard.
4) now I have also a horizantal scar a bit under septum which touches my vertical scar and between 3 of them I have a puffed up skin, seems like there is air in it and so bad looking. It puffes up more when im talking, smiling...
5) nose is not straight, it goes to right, when u look at my face I have a pisa tower nose
6)he did nothing on lackness of tissue on lip so it still moves to one side when talking, eating and its like on upside down "V"
7)and my left side is still deforme looking it is still below then right side and
8) maybe the worse he cutted my left nostril to make it bigger and it is SO big, seemable from every angle
I cant feel k,
so my questions are pls can u tell me,
is there anything I can do and wht?
was that tutoplast adding on cheek had any aim?
will it melt and will I look like old times again?
I am so despaerate please please help me,
best regards
love,
ftnt

hi,
thanks for your detailed question. however, it is hard for me to answer your questions, as they are far too complex to answer appropriately in a forum or via photos. i would need to do an in-person consultation to decide. plus, you are only 3 months out. i would try to wait a year (which i know is a long time but i don't want to rush things when things are still in a healing phase). also, i have never heard of the implant your doctor used. in general, go to your doctor and express your concerns. he might be able to alleviate some of them for you. if need be, i would look forward to help you in the future.
best wishes,
dr. samuel lam

Hello Dr. Lam,
Thank you very much for your quick reply.

Unfortunately I am not living in USA so its so hard for me to be able to see you but when searching articles on science direct, elsevier... I crossed your name and decided to ask you. Hope one day I can be able to come and have an face to face reply.

On asking q.s to my doctor, unfortunately he doesnt reply me, he just tells I need another surgery but I need an explanation and unless he explains me I know I'll keep worrying cause because lasy surgery I had hope but now I think I cant be fixed again.

Also I've checked the papers again and the implant full name is (my mistake sorry) maxillae tutoplast.

I wouldnt like to seem like talking behind my doctor so I didnt gave his name. If its possible I would like to discuss you about my problem on e mail even I can send pic.s

Thank you very much again for your time,

best regards
ftnt

first, i am glad that you did not mention your doctor's name. that is a rule on this forum when you signed up. second, i have not heard of your implant material before. maybe something that is done abroad and not in the U.S. you can send me photos via a PM but i cannot promise to give you accurate information without an in-person consultation.
best,
sml

Hello Dr. Lam
sorry for late reply, I couldnt check my e-mails before and also thank u very much for your modest attitude by replying.

U are right without in person conversation, it will be hard to make comments so I will go to another surgeon as soon as possible and will let u know about conversation.

Take care of ur self Dr.Lam,

best regards
