Dysport VS. BOTOX

Postby steelo » Wed Dec 16, 2009 5:18 am

Dr. Lam, thank you for your great accessibility on this site!

What are your thoughts on Dysport Vs. BOTOX? I have received BOTOX from another doctor several times in the past to treat forehead and frown lines. It always worked very well to almost totally reduce the lines in those areas and to limit some muscle movement without severely limiting my ability to make facial expressions. It just gets expensive getting the injections every few months... so I looked into Dysport, which I guess has the same effect as BOTOX, but it supposed to be cheaper. Last week I had Dysport injected in three places on the outside of each of my eyes to treat the lines there. It has been less than a week since I had Dysport, and I already see the effects -- no lines there anymore. I am pleased.

Do you believe Dysport can be used as effectively in all the same areas that BOTOX can be used? Should it last as long as BOTOX?

I really wish doctors would offer BOTOX and Dysport packages so that we could pay for several treatments at once and receive some kind of "bulk" rate discount... sort of like a loyalty discount. After seeing what BOTOX can do, I do not want to let the treatment lapse, since it seems that immobilizing those parts of the face can help prevent lines in those areas from getting deeper.

Botox and Dysport are both good products. I think one is probably not better than the other. I did do a side by side comparison for my patient care coordinator who has very tough wrinkles, and I got a much much better result with Botox. Given that I buy my Botox in bulk quantity, I don't think there would be an appreciable cost savings. I like to stick to one brand for the time being and see how things move forward. I did do Dysport on a woman who is resistant to Botox. will see how that goes. She comes from out of town so I don't have as clear a follow up with her.
best,
