mole removal

Postby elle » Wed Dec 16, 2009 4:21 am

Hi Dr. Lam,

May I first say you have a wonderfully informative website! I discovered it through a video of a lady on youtube who'd had 3 moles removed from her face, and it has reassured me no end. I've had a mole on my upper lip for as long as I can remember. It is raised and very dark, sitting just above the left end of the cupid's "v" and I've reached a point where I've had enough comments about it (I'm 22 now) to just want it gone! My question is, given that it is 4 by 5mm, round and just touching my lip area, what method of removal would you recommend? I would really appreciate any advice you could offer.

Wishing you a merry christmas too!
Elle xx

obviously, i have not seen you in person. however, i removed a mole just like that. fearing that i would disturb the local architecture: lip shape etc. i would probably do this in 2 stages. first burning it off and then following it for recurrence over a year. if it recurred, i would either reburn or at that time close it as an incision, which would thereby be much smaller. just fyi: i make it a rule not to remove moles for people from out of city because i am so religious with follow up to make sure the mole heals well that it becomes impractical and almost unethical for me to do it for that person. at least that is how i feel. i tend to need to see that person between 3 to 7 times but it is always unpredictable. thanks for the kind words and merry xmas too!
best,
