Chin Implant and Removal

Postby Howard » Tue Dec 08, 2009 1:02 pm

Hi Dr. Lam,

I had a chin implant put in under my chin two months ago, and I didn't like it. It affected my speech because my lower lip was stretched both vertically and horizontally. There was a deep line between my lower lip and the implant. Then I got the implant removed after it was in for two months. I am now at 9 days post op. My concern is that my speech is still not quite right. I am still having a difficult time pronouncing certain words, especially when I talk fast. Will my speech come back? Even with the implant out, there is that augmentation shape that is still in my chin, although smaller, and both of my lips have stored to its original size (more plumped). Will the line go away and the pocket collapse down so the chin goes to back to its original shape? If so, how long does that take? Also, I noticed I had a lot of saliva when the implant was in. Now, without it, I still have a lot of saliva. Is this normal? Do I have nerve damage? As you can tell, I am worried. Please help. I appreciate your professional opinion.

i'm really sorry to hear of your situation. the best thing to do is to ask your surgeon or get a second opinion from a qualified surgeon. you could have either temporary nerve paralysis or unlikely a permanent one. don't fret. i hope that your condition will improve. another thing is that many of my patients talk a little funny for a week after the procedure because the mentalis muscle that I have to cut through after it is sewn back together does not work right for the first week or two. hope you find the right help. as far as saliva, i can't answer that. you really should seek a live consultation with a qualified physician.
best,
sml
