Sculptra not being used by Dr Lam?

This section of the forum is dedicated to discussions on various surgical techniques for facial rejuvenation, including fat transfer/fat grafting, browlift, blepharoplasty (cosmetic eyelid surgery), facelift, etc. Also, this category includes questions on hand rejuvenation via fat grafting. (Of note, Dr. Lam does not perform body rejuvenation except for hand fat grafting)

1. too expensive.
2. takes too many rounds to get the results.
3. uncomfortable to inject with the cross-hatching method.
4. not good for eyes and mouth only for cheeks as the bioactivator component makes nodules in anywhere else but the midface.
5. unpredictable since it must have your collagen grow to create the result.
6. no immediate gratification since you are guessing at a result that you would only see a few months down the road. most people with fillers wants results yesterday.

as far as fillers, i prefer perlane and restylane for the following reasons:
1. can be used over the entire face including eyes, nose, cheeks, lips, chin, folds, whereas sculptra is good for cheeks.
2. they are immediate gratification and do not require collagen to possibly build a result.
3. they are reversible and i can then use what i really like as a permanent option which is fat transfer by reversing it as needed.
4. less expensive
this is not to say it is a bad product, it just does not make sense at this time in my practice.
best,
sml
