fat graphting and thyroid surgery

This section of the forum is dedicated to discussions on various surgical techniques for facial rejuvenation, including fat transfer/fat grafting, browlift, blepharoplasty (cosmetic eyelid surgery), facelift, etc. Also, this category includes questions on hand rejuvenation via fat grafting. (Of note, Dr. Lam does not perform body rejuvenation except for hand fat grafting)

fat graphting and thyroid surgery

Postby Sillyme702 » Thu Nov 26, 2009 10:36 am

Hello Dr. Lam,

I recieved full facial fat graphting a month ago. The results have been fantastic. I loved it. However, 2 days ago I had thyroid surgery to remove half of my thyroid. Now I am noticing a lot of crepy skin on my upper eye lids, rather than the beautiful full brow you had created for me. My question is... Is this typical swelling around eye lids after thyroid surgery and should I expect it to return to the full brow which you created once the swelling has subsided?

Thank you

you are at no risk of losing my fat. most likely some of the swelling is going down and the stretch appeal of the initial procedure mixed with dissipating swelling are contributing to your current observation. although i cannot promise crepey skin to be gone with fat transfer, the ultimate result will start to show up again in a few months (after the infamous dip) and improve with majority to 1 year then with minor gains typically up to 2.5 years out.
happy thanksgiving,
