TCA Cross

This section of the forum is dedicated to discussions on managing, treating, and correcting acne scarring. (Of note, Dr. Lam is focused principally on acne scarring rather than on managing the ongoing condition of acne, which a dermatologist would be better equipped to address.)

TCA Cross

Postby Patricia » Tue Nov 17, 2009 9:46 am

Hi Dr. Lam,

I have a few Icepick on the nose wich I think could be treated with TCA Cross. I'd really love you to perform it, but unfortunately I live in Spain (where doctors don't know anything about TCA cross, by the way) and I don't have enough money to fly to your country only for the treatment. I was wondering if you know any doctor in Europe with experience in TCA cross.
I would like to know as well if you have ever had any bad results with TCA cross, specifically the scars getting worse than they were before.

Thank you for your time.
Patricia

sorry that you live so far away. i agree for something as small as cross i would not make that long a journey to see me. the answer is yes, when i first started doing cross about 7 years ago, i saw some areas worsen when i was being aggressive. i have now refined my technique where i rarely if ever see that. the trick is absolute control of the drop of acid and no spilling of it. also, deciding which holes will work and which ones won't. it is easy to worsen things with cross if you are not careful. be very very careful when choosing a provider for 100% cross.
best,

hi dr lam,

i was wondering for the risks, if the tca spills over to normal skin. does it put a hole in the skin or does it just give the skin a medium peel and heals like a regaulr tca peel?thank you

no, it can leave a hole. that is why i am psychotic about not allowing it to drip. TCA Cross is one of the most dangerous things to use if you don't have extensive experience with it. am i trying to scare you? yes, but it is true.
