Artefill ok in this area?

Postby Mysteryagain » Tue Nov 17, 2009 9:46 am

Hi Dr Lam!! and everyone! Memento and all!...

I am following the blog, at least once a week I read all the entries and love them! I do not always comment on them because I feel silly to comment on something sometimes posted one week ago :o ;)

Back to the question...
For some reason (well, "some reason" .. ageing! LOL) I have been losing a bit of facial fat lately. A rather hectic, stressful life in the past months has not helped, of course ;). Somehow I tend to lose weight easily, but while I regain it in other parts of the body, when it's gone from the face, it seems to not get back!

I have also noticed that other people in my family (from my Mom's side) tend to lose fat as time goes by in that same area. And that's not so much in the apple of the cheeks nor the lower cheeks, as it is in "inner" area closer to the nose. For you to have an idea I will enclose a drawing.

It would not be a big deal if it weren't that I did not luck out in the gene pool and have a rather long nose that is perfectly normal but a bit wide in proportion to my face. Same issue with my older sister, who has a longer nose and is even more self-conscious.

Anyway, the thing is that the loss of fat close to the nose somehow creates the illusion of the nose standing out more and being wider. Eeeek!!!!!!!!!!!

I wanted to ask you if it is doable and *safe* to inject a filler in the area so that the bit of added plumpness disguises the appearance of a bigger nose created by the loss of volume in the area. A filler such as artefill would be safe there?

Hugs hugs hugs... here is the drawing of the area I mean...

hmmm, interesting. maybe you are seeing something that i don't. i tend not to inject many fillers there unless you are talking about the upper recess of the nasolabial groove, which i refer to as the canine fossa. if that is the case, then i do inject that all the time, and that should be safe in the hands of skilled injector. but i think you are going for another geographic territory. if that is the case, then i have no mature comment to make.
best,

Maybe it's an optical illusion I have, a reason I imagine why the noses in my family end up seeming bigger. But maybe it's not the case... or maybe the canine fossa loss of volume has more to do with it? I will look at my relatives and pics of other people and see... Interesting.
Thanksssssssssssss!
