Silicone/TCA ok for sensitive skin?

This section of the forum is dedicated to discussions on managing, treating, and correcting acne scarring. (Of note, Dr. Lam is focused principally on acne scarring rather than on managing the ongoing condition of acne, which a dermatologist would be better equipped to address.)

Silicone/TCA ok for sensitive skin?

Postby sanfrancisco7 » Wed Nov 04, 2009 12:43 am

Hi Dr. Lam,

Thanks for taking the time on this board, it's great.

I'm planning on flying in to see you for a consult & treatment in February. I have a couple questions...

1. I have fairly sensitive skin that seems to scar pretty easily. Assuming my scars are the "right" type, am I still a candidate for Silicone & TCA given that sensitivity?

2. I no longer have active acne but am on Spirolonactone to keep it under control. Is it okay to continue taking this medication while being treated for scarring?

3. Do you recommend light chemical peels as a complement to these procedures? I'm wondering if I can get the ball rolling on lessening some of the hyperpigmentation.

Thanks again!!

yes, that should not be a problem.

2. I no longer have active acne but am on Spirolonactone to keep it under control. Is it okay to continue taking this medication while being treated for scarring?
yes, you may continue taking it. it will have no adverse effect.

3. Do you recommend light chemical peels as a complement to these procedures? I'm wondering if I can get the ball rolling on lessening some of the hyperpigmentation.
for hyperpigmentation you should try a bleaching product like 4% hydroquinone (obagi, triluma). they work better than chemical peels, which could actually worsen them.

look forward to take care of you.
best,
sml
