Downtime & risk potential for procedures

This section of the forum is dedicated to discussions on various surgical techniques for facial rejuvenation, including fat transfer/fat grafting, browlift, blepharoplasty (cosmetic eyelid surgery), facelift, etc. Also, this category includes questions on hand rejuvenation via fat grafting. (Of note, Dr. Lam does not perform body rejuvenation except for hand fat grafting)

Downtime & risk potential for procedures

Postby irongirl » Sun Dec 30, 2007 9:09 am

Dr. Lam,

I came across your website actually by accident. I was searching for information on Griffen bikes and when I did so, you came up in the search string (I am friends with the owners and an avid cyclist - triathlete.) I was curious to seeing how your company was some how related to Griffen and watched your video detailing how you met Tony.

At that same time I was able to see your other YouTube postings regarding procedures. From watching these, I have to say I was impressed enough that I called for a consultation which is coming up at the end of January. I have been thinking about getting some Botox and fillers as welll as learning more about fat grafting.

Now my question for posting is... I am 36 years old and just looking to look a little younger and softer look. I also am currently training for Ironman Arizona. The race is this April so my "down time" I can spare for anything away from training is at less than a day. I believe that the fillers... (your call on what to use) and/or Botox should be able to give me a little softer look... Similar to the woman you had on the Dallas Morning show but more than anything, I want to make sure that if I did do this before my race.... there would be little to no chances of any procedures affecting my ablity to continue training.

Call me crazy but with the time and dedication it take to get this far in to Ironman training, I would better ask and be overly cautious on risks than ever. I hope you can understand.

Let me know and thanks

Hi,
That is really funny!!! I just sent your forum post to my friend Mark Winters who took over the company. I had a blast touring the facility and meeting Tony. I really respond to people who are passionate and dedicated in their life's mission. That was perhaps my weirdest vlog but I could't resist.

As far as botox and fillers, they are fantastic options for you and should not interrupt your training whatsoever. To be more specific, let me point out a few things considering your training (as I have done triathletes before):
1. as far as botox, you cannot train that day after I do your botox. the next day, you can do whatever you want. if you want to come toward the end of the day, that will limit your inability to train that day. also, if we do the area between the eyes (the frowning area), you cannot squint too much meaning that if you don't wear sunglasses you may not be able to squint to eliminate the glare. that is unlikely but i just mention it for completeness sake. i have not had anyone complain of that.
2. as far as fillers, that is a great option too to "try on fat grafting". i can make the face look a lot softer with really no downtime. only a few small considerations: 1) you may have a little bruising, which i can manage with my laser. most people get no bruising since i don't use traditional needles (too hard to explain here). 2) if possible no swimming for 2 days since my tiny needle entry points need to close so that they do not get contaminated. 3) the couple of needle entry points may turn a bit darker (very small dot) with sun exposure but is unlikely and not very noticeable if that happens in most cases. I will explain more when I meet you. Make sure that you are compliant the week before to be off vitamin e, aspirin, herbal stuff etc. if possible to limit bruising. You can download those forms from my website as "preoperative instructions" or have my staff fax it to you.

not trying to frighten you but just mention all the things i can think of that relate to training for a triathlon. look forward to meet you.
best,
sml

Mark is the greatest guy... We did our first Sprint race together about 4 years ago. He and his partners are going to make that Griffen an even greater company.

I am so happy to hear that you understand the needs of consideration to the training us crazy triathletes do... It gives me a piece of mind like no other.

I am on the books to meet with you on the 29th for the consult (unless there is a cancellation). I am very excited to hear all the options and what we can do.

Thanks again!
