lip lift using fat transfer?

Postby miaou5 » Tue Sep 08, 2009 1:15 pm

Hi Dr. Lam,

First off, thank you so much for this forum!! It's really an invaluable resource, and a great testimony to your consideration for us patients as a doctor. :)

My question is--is it possible to lift the lips to a higher position (just a few mms) on the face using fat grafting? I'm not talking about adding fat to the lips themselves, but maybe to the paranasal or cheek area to "fill out" the skin on the face more and lift the lips as a "side effect," of sorts. Do you think this is doable? I'm a bit gun-shy about getting a lip lift (I don't need SO much lift), and since I need fat transfer anyway, it would be wonderful if I could kill 2 birds with one stone. Thanks again Dr. Lam, and have a great night!

hi,
1. first read my comment on someone talking about a V-Y advancement nightmare (I just answered that question about 10 minutes ago) and when i do and do not do a lip lift. they are terrible in about 99.99999999999999999999999999999999999999999999999999999999999999999% of patients but the patients don't know that until they have it done. and i am not talking about a V-Y but a subnasale lip lift. DON'T DO IT!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
2. fat transfer does not lift. i have a video called fill versus lift where we tend to think when we fill something it will lift it. it won't. please let me evaluate you and show you what i think you will need. most people are blown away that the things they think they need will either be a complete waste of money or literally dangerous.
i beg you not to go into a surgeon's office saying: "i need these 3 things..." he/she will probably do it. just please do a consult with me when you have time. i am booked out a few months in advance. i think mid to late november right now. but please don't let that dissuade you. as you can see, i am feeling you are going to do something you regret based on your question. sorry, maybe a wrong feeling but i get that you might not like what you are asking for ultimately.
best,
sml
