Gaining weight after fat graft

This section of the forum is dedicated to discussions on various surgical techniques for facial rejuvenation, including fat transfer/fat grafting, browlift, blepharoplasty (cosmetic eyelid surgery), facelift, etc. Also, this category includes questions on hand rejuvenation via fat grafting. (Of note, Dr. Lam does not perform body rejuvenation except for hand fat grafting)

Gaining weight after fat graft

Postby sshirshe » Thu Sep 03, 2009 1:22 pm

Hi, I was just wondering that if you were to get a fat graft just under the eyes and the cheek area and then began to gain weight afterwards would the area that was just injected also increase in size?

I've always tried to gain weight in those areas but it seems the fat just go's to the chin and unwanted areas. Now with a fat supply in those areas, wouldn't they also increase or even more so.

absolutely, you are correct. there are few things to consider:
1. if you gain substantial weight (20 plus pounds), it might not look good in those areas because they will grow unlike the fat that you you no longer have there.
2. people that gain weight to try to look better will not because they will only gain it in the chin and lower cheek area. that will actually make the eye and cheek area look worse because the lower face gains disproportionate weight.
if you are relatively stable in your weight, a fat transfer is your best option to balance your face well and put fat where you can't otherwise get it.
best,

Good points.

But then wouldn't the under eye + cheek area that was injected with Fat, also start increasing in size if you do put on weight.

I guess the key is to maintain the weight after the fat transfer. Weight loss will just result in the fat breaking down, and weight gain will give the chin/lower cheek more size and just complicate things.
