Facial Liposuction

Postby Tacy » Tue Aug 25, 2009 1:59 am

Hi Dr. Lam,

I am delighted about your love for art and your expertise in your trade after watching your videos on youtube and visiting your website. As seen in the picture, the fat distribution in my face is more heavy around the mouth, chin, and jaw creating a sagging and grumpy look. I am only 28 yo. Aside from the uneven nose and the skin imperfection my main focus currently is the noticeable asymmetry (even more asymmetrical when I smile) of my face as my R side is heavier and the R corner of my lip sags more. I also have teeth grinding problem and jaw pain. I want to have a better smile and look more approachable even when I am not smiling.

1) Will facial liposuction helps in my case? If combine with botox of the masseters will it be too aggressive or will it give a better result?
2) Can facial liposcution and rhinoplasty be performed during the same operation? How long will the recovery time be?
3) Would you suggest any other methods?

Thank you!

I AM OPPOSED TO FACIAL LIPOSUCTION BECAUSE I DO NOT BELIEVE I CAN SAFELY CREATE A SMOOTH RESULT IN REDUCTION. MAYBE YOU CAN FIND A SURGEON WHO CAN DELIVER ON THAT PROMISE BUT I CAN'T. I FIND THAT IT IS VERY HARD TO EVENLY SUCTION A FACE. BOTOX TO THE MASSETERS WILL ONLY HELP THE OUTER PART OF THE FACE AND WILL ONLY DO SO IF WHEN YOU BITE DOWN YOUR MASSETERS FEEL LIKE ROCKS. IF THEY ARE JUST MILDLY FIRM, THE BOTOX WON'T HELP. I HOPE THAT IS CLEAR.

SEE #1. I DON'T PERFORM OR BELIEVE IN SAFE FACIAL LIPOSUCTION. RHINOPLASTY RECOVERIES VARY. IN GENERAL, YOU WILL HAVE A SPLINT AND SUTURES FOR A WEEK. NO MAJOR EVENTS FOR A MONTH. MINOR SOCIAL ENGAGEMENTS IN MOST CASES ARE ACCEPTABLE AFTER 10 DAYS OR SO BECAUSE THE RECOVERY TYPICALLY IS NOT THAT BAD CONCERNING SWELLING. BUT PERCEPTIONS VARY. JUST TRYING TO ACCOMMODATE ALL PERCEPTIONS IF THAT IS EVEN POSSIBLE.
3) Would you suggest any other methods?
YOU MIGHT BENEFIT FROM A CHIN IMPLANT IF YOU ARE VERY RECESSED IN THE CHIN AREA TO MAKE YOUR FACE LESS ROUND. HOWEVER, IN A WOMAN YOU DON'T WANT TO OVERDO IT. IT DEPENDS ON HOW FAR YOUR CHIN IS BACK ON A PROFILE VIEW.
best,
