This section of the forum is dedicated to discussions on various surgical techniques for facial rejuvenation, including fat transfer/fat grafting, browlift, blepharoplasty (cosmetic eyelid surgery), facelift, etc. Also, this category includes questions on hand rejuvenation via fat grafting. (Of note, Dr. Lam does not perform body rejuvenation except for hand fat grafting)

fat graft post orthognathic surgery

Postby Smile » Sat Aug 01, 2009 1:27 pm

Dear Dr. Lam,
I'm interested in having facial fat grafting. I've always had long thin face (long face syndrome) 3 months ago I underwent orthognathic surgery ( lefort I 4 mm impaction and setback and genioplasty) as my surgeon suspected I ended up with a flat midface and sunken cheeks. I don’t have much time off work (2 weeks) so my question is if it was safe to have my fat grafting 5 months post orthognathic Surgery and if 2 weeks are enough down time. My swelling from lefort I is almost subsided except my subnasal and upper lip area which i'm not looking to graft as they were full prior surgery.

Regards,
Nora

to me 5 months seems quite reasonable. you might want to check with your surgeon but he might not understand fat transfer so i would say that 5 months is quite reasonable in my opinion.
best,
