New Acne Scars On Forehead - How Soon?

This section of the forum is dedicated to discussions on managing, treating, and correcting acne scarring. (Of note, Dr. Lam is focused principally on acne scarring rather than on managing the ongoing condition of acne, which a dermatologist would be better equipped to address.)

New Acne Scars On Forehead - How Soon?

Postby natas08 » Fri Jul 24, 2009 8:28 pm

Hi Dr Lam,

I recently had my first significant acne breakout, after being on Accutane about 3 years ago, and had two pretty large zits on my forehead. Now, I seem to have one pretty large depression and another few minor ones. I would say there are 3 depression areas of concern now.

My question is this - the zits went away about 1 month ago. Is it too soon to start worrying about the lasting effects of them and coming in to get them worked on?

I have been putting some $20 scar reduction cream from Walgreens on the areas a few times a day but so far it doesn't look like its done anything. The area is still red and the depressions look the same.

Also, to work on something like this, is it possible that the consultation and the procedure are done on the same day, since I'm from out of town? I also have a few chicken pox scars, that I'm very self conscious about, that I'm also interested in having work done on.

i think that worrying about the long-term consequences of a recent pimple may be too soon if it is only a short time after the incident. many of those heal well. what is the right time to wait? don't know. maybe at least 6 months to a year. i don't think scar reduction cream will do anything. those creams are typically designed for the OPPOSITE type of scarring, meaning too big a scar. yours is a hole. for the redness, a KTP or PDL laser would be your best options to manage the condition but time typically will help that be reduced without intervention (not in every case).

i can manage the chicken pox scars if they are tiny with the CROSS treatment. i can do the treatment the same day as a consultation. hope that helps.
best,
sml
