questions regarding scarring

This section of the forum is dedicated to discussions on managing, treating, and correcting acne scarring. (Of note, Dr. Lam is focused principally on acne scarring rather than on managing the ongoing condition of acne, which a dermatologist would be better equipped to address.)

questions regarding scarring

Postby tnt » Sun Apr 26, 2009 7:03 pm

Dr. Lam,
I am scheduled to see you in June. I am looking for something to improve the appearance of my acne scars. I believe I have ice pick and rolling scars.

I am curious if I am a good candidate for silicone injections and possibly TCA treatments. I want something permanent if I am going to spend a certain amount of money and I do not want to feel this self conscious for the rest of my life. I know you have said that they can be done the same day but not on the same area, is that correct?

Also what do you mean by, "PERMANENT MINUS MINOR EFFECTS OF AGING" I am in my early twenties and this makes me nervous for the future as I have plenty of aging in front of me...do you mean at a very old age when skin really starts sagging?

When I come into see you should I wear makeup? Makeup seems to emphasize my scars, (I know you are probably thinking then why wear it?!) but I wear it because of my uneven skin tone and redmarks and I just look better with it than without. If I wear it in is there somewhere to quickly wash it off for the session?

I would like to send you some pictures of what my scars look like with both makeup and a clean face. where can i send them?

Sorry for such a long post!

NO, THE SKIN REALLY DOES NOT SAG. SEE MY VIDEO ON RETHINKING GRAVITY. IT DOES DEFLATE HOWEVER. SO YOU MIGHT NEED FAT TRANSFER OR ADDITIONAL SILICONE BASED ON THOSE CHANGES DURING YOUR LIFETIME.

When I come into see you should I wear makeup? TYPICALLY, IT IS PREFERRED FOR YOU TO COME IN WITHOUT MAKEUP WHEN I AM ADDRESSING SKIN TREATMENTS, BUT IF SOMEHOW THAT WOULD AFFECT MY READING OF THINGS, YOU CAN COME IN WITH MAKEUP AND THERE IS A NEARBY RESTROOM TO QUICKLY REMOVE IT.

I would like to send you some pictures of what my scars look like with both makeup and a clean face. where can i send them?
PREFERABLY, JUST WAIT UNTIL I SEE YOU BECAUSE ACNE SCARS ON PHOTOS NEVER DO JUSTICE TO WHAT I WOULD SEE IN PERSON. SINCE YOU ARE COMING ANYWAY, I WILL WAIT TO SEE YOU IN PERSON.

Sorry for such a long post!

Are collagen injections something you do? Are they permanent and a good alternative to silicone injections?

Also, just wondering what or if you knew anything about other options for indented scarring such as topical vitamin-C, or any kind of home remedy I could possibly try in the mean time until I can see you in june?

Thanks!!

collagen injections went out of favor in the last 90s early 2000s. topical vitamin c will not do anything. just being honest.
best,
