Thick skin on nose

Postby Faye » Sun Apr 12, 2009 5:50 am

Hi, I had visited a plastic surgeon before, and he said I have very thick skin on my nose. It was not like that before, it just grow thicker and thicker with my super oily gland and acne as I grew up. so when I read your web I saw this.

"External valve collapse can occur due to many causes. The gentleman pictured below has a condition known as rhinophyma. The exuberant overgrowth of his nose tissue has led to external valve collapse due to the weight of the tissue. Reduction of the overgrown tissue not only provided aesthetic improvement but also permitted him to breathe again."

"Reduction of the overgrown tissue" does it mean the skin can be reduced? And if yes, what procedures do I need?

Thank you for answering! :D

Best regards,
Faye

this is only the case with rhinophyma. if you just cut down thicker skin, you will have a disaster. now, during a rhinoplasty on thick skin, i do at times thin down very small areas of the nose from underneath in combination with elevating other areas to make the nose look more refined. but the skin shave technique on normal skin surface will lead to terrible scarring. you may want to check with your dermatologist to see if you have early rhinophyma which can be treated medically and possibly reduced that way. thanks for the question.
