filler for poor fat graft

This section of the forum is dedicated to discussions on various surgical techniques for facial rejuvenation, including fat transfer/fat grafting, browlift, blepharoplasty (cosmetic eyelid surgery), facelift, etc. Also, this category includes questions on hand rejuvenation via fat grafting. (Of note, Dr. Lam does not perform body rejuvenation except for hand fat grafting)

filler for poor fat graft

Postby dskennedy14 » Tue Mar 24, 2009 8:11 am

Hey Dr. Lam,
I am looking forward to seeing you in a couple of weeks. It will be nice to get into the Texas heat and out of Michigan for awhile.
Quick question on my procedure...you said you could put in some fillers to help reduce the bubble i have from a poor fat graft that was done previously under my eyes...I had botox done a few months ago and it seemed to really help pull the skin tighter and reduce the bubble...but since then i have leaned out a bit and my face is leaner than when i saw you last year...do you think the fillers will be able to reduce the bubble a great deal, or, do you think continuing to get botox will be an easier solution?
Have you had previous success with using the fillers to reduce the bubble buldge that is under my eye? Take care and see you in two weeks!

hi doug,
yes, i have successfully managed that with restylane. interestingly, the only "lump" that i personally have had under the eyes was a lady who had a terrible lower blepharoplasty with a lot of scarring that i thought was an eyebag. accordingly, i put restylane around her bubble (that i did not create but looked worse with my fat) and it disappeared. at a year following my fat transfer i saw that it was looking worse again for some reason. i dissolved her restylane and it looked smooth! the restylane allowed me to stent the area until the fat worked on healing and blending. if that had not worked, i would have put in a scar dissolver or cut out her old scar (again i did not do her original blepharoplasty). so in a long answer is yes i should be able to manage it with fillers. theoretically botox could help to manage the skin healing but that may be a stretch. if it is working so far for you great! again, i would have to see your situation up close again to make sure you are a proper candidate.
look forward to see you,
sml
