Scar on Bridge of the Nose

Postby salamander » Tue Mar 17, 2009 6:51 pm

Hi Dr. Lam,

Five years ago, I broke my nose when I slipped and fell face forwards into the edge of a sharp desk (this also left a deep scar on the bridge of the nose). The right side of the nose is slightly bent inwards but all in all, the nose does not look too bad. The scar is on the top bridge of the nose (slightly to the right) and it really bothers me. It is not too large (maybe less than .5inch, I'm not too good as guestimating). I visited a plastic surgeon who told me that cutting scars on the bridge of the nose and re-excising it isn't always the wisest choice. He gave me a very detailed medical explanation why however to be honest I did not understand the reason thoroughly. My question to you is, suppose I get a nose job, in my case a subtle one because I am not too bummed out about the way the nose looks after the break but I am bummed out about the scar, will the scar still be there? Or does a nose job somehow cover up or get rid of any existing scar on the bridge of the nose? Sorry about question, I think I could have done a better job of explaining. Thanks for your time.

no, your explanation is good. i think it will be there unchanged after the rhino unless the surgeon does a simultaneous scar revision, which is not always a good idea if the bones are realigned, etc. with concerns of blood supply to the area or stretch from swelling.
best,
