COMPLEX SCAR

Postby NOORUDDIN » Thu Feb 12, 2009 2:13 am

Dear Dr. Lam

Dear Dr. Lam sorry to bother you again but I had a couple of questions regarding my complex scar and wanted to show you the results after the surgery. Unfortunately my scar has opened again

1- Is it normal to have a skin peeling procedure just 12 days after the scar revision procedure and only 2 days after taking the stitches off. The peeling was done by a natural lotion with a sort of menthol ingredient.
2- Since the doctor did the surgery on four different layers of the skin, some of the inside stitches are going to be permanent, is that normal wont it make the outer surface of the skin looking swollen or will the swellness go with time. I cant understand why my scar does not heel
3- unlike before it seems to be taking the same color of my original skin. How long do you think it will take for me to see the final results. Do you think that faxel laser would help.
4- I did not stop smoking after the surgery, could that be a reason why my scar has opened again? My scar is tired from 6 surgeries. If I wished to do my 7th one at your clinic in Dallas would that be possible or to risky. If yes how long should I wait and how would you proceed different from the other doctors

Forgive me for bothering you Dr. but the scar is really bothering me, Appreciate your help and time Doctor, may god bless you

In general, I make it a point not to comment on freshly completed surgery since you should be asking your physician these questions. However, in general, smoking can be a major factor in not letting a wound heal well. If you have been through so many times doing this, you should be aware of this limitation by now, I would assume. I know it is not easy not to smoke but with 6 rounds, you should not be taking any chances. Your skin overall just looks unhealthy. If you keep cutting on scars, they will get thicker and not heal as wel. Give it time to heal like several months. Skin peeling 12 days after??????????????????????? Well, that does not make too much sense to me unless it was just an emollient. That would seem to hurt the wound if it were in fact a true peel and not just an emollient. I am not entertaining any scar revision if you smoke for 6 weeks before and 6 weeks after, and for at least 6 months after your current procedure. At that point, we can at least think about it but I make no promises. Patience for now.
best,
sml
