Getting a Dimple

Postby sara » Mon Dec 17, 2007 8:05 pm

Has anyone in this forum ever had a dimple suture done?

Are acquired dimples permanent. Is it possible after many years one fine day you wake up and tirelessly search for them and realized they abandoned you while you were asleep?

I do get dimples but they are not as deep as I would have wanted them to me.

So just need some education on that from anyone.

THanks in advance.

dimple response

Postby dr. lam » Mon Dec 17, 2007 8:47 pm

Perhaps I should answer that question. Dimples that are created are permanent after a few months. The suture needs to hold for the first few weeks to month during which time scar is forming. Once the scar is formed the suture has no importance whatsoever. It is hard to determine exactly the ultimate depth of the dimple since that depends on the degree of scarring. That is why in general I am not a big fan of doing two dimples (one on each side) since the final result will almost certainly be different.

The procedure otherwise is easy to do and can be done in less than 10 minutes without an external incision but you will have a visible dimple all the time for a few weeks. You will also most likely have a small dot where the suture went through for a couple of weeks or more. You must know that before signing up.

If you are from out of town (which believe it or not 70% of my dimples fly in for this service), you can fly back out that same day since it is done as an office procedure. No sutures need to be removed since the suture inside the mouth dissolves and the other one holding the dimple is buried and you will forget that it is even there once the dimple "falls out", i.e., when it becomes visible only during smiling/animation. The cost is $2000 for a dimple.

Hope that helps.

Dr. Lam:

THank you for the insight.

Did you mean $2000 for a dimple on one side?
