Lip Reduction Questions

Postby ts4them » Sat Jan 24, 2009 4:56 pm

Hi Dr. Lam, My lips have scar tissue from lip implants (and subsequent removal), and a very small amount of silikon. My lips don't look too large at rest, but are a little poofier than I would like. The bigger problem is the scar tissue from the implants makes my lips get bigger when I'm smiling, kind of flat but too high vertically and they cover my teeth. I would like to have the top lip that disappears when smiling as you've talked about. I was going to try 5fu injections, but think I should just go ahead and have lip reduction surgery. Have you fixed a similar case? One of your b/a's has a similar look to mine, but my main problem isn't too much silicone. Can scar tissue within the lip be removed?

yes, that should be relatively straightforward. believe it or not scar tissue builds up from silicone and gore-tex so in essence i remove it all the time. you should be fine. look forward to evaluating your situation and helping you.
best,

Thanks for the quick reply. I'll be traveling from NYC, would I need more than an overnight stay at a hotel? I can do the consult and surgery on the same day, correct? How many days off from work do you recommend?

i have done many individuals from NYC. most people fly in during the morning, do the consult and surgery together then leave in the evening. how much time off is hard to say. perception of yourself is everything. i hate to make claims on recovery when yours may lie outside of a standard experience, whatever that should mean. In general, you might want to take a few days to a week off if you are worried. I think more than that time allotment may be excessive but please don't quote me on that. I don't want someone upset at me. Also, I would really appreciate a photo if I have not already seen one with your mouth closed and open and what you are desiring. please send me a PM so that i can review before you make an expensive trip down here.
best,
sml
