scar revision from TCA CROSS

This section of the forum is dedicated to discussions on managing, treating, and correcting acne scarring. (Of note, Dr. Lam is focused principally on acne scarring rather than on managing the ongoing condition of acne, which a dermatologist would be better equipped to address.)

scar revision from TCA CROSS

Postby grazzly » Mon Jan 12, 2009 9:54 pm

Dr. Lam,

Three months ago, I had TCA CROSS to two icepick scars by a doctor in a respected hospital. 1 on my nostril, and another on my cheek. That was a huge mistake. The acid ended up wicking in my skin and spreading out beyond the boundaries of the original scar. Now I have deeper, wider atrophic scarring along with brown post-inflammatory hyperpigmentation. Of course, the regret has been haunting me ever since. I am an asian, so I am scared of anything involving laser resurfacing, dermabrasion, or anything that will cause permanent discoloration or worse scarring. I realize that the nostril is extremely complicated, but would excision be an appropriate option for these two spots? I am hoping it would be procedurally comparable to mole removal. I also realize that I would have to wait 6 months to a year before any serious treatment, but I need a tangible course of action. Thanks in advance.

sorry to hear of your situation. remember i don't know your situation until i see it. however, speaking in general, cutting it out will most likely not help. asian skin takes forever to heal. possibly laser for any redness, dermabrasion for edges but you are right. must be very light with asian skin. i would really have to see your condition. perhaps patience is the best option at this early point. wish i could help more.
best,
sml
