granuloma after restylane

Postby proxy » Mon Jan 12, 2009 6:59 am

Hello dr. Lam,

I had restylane injected in June 2008 and almost immediately felt that a bump formed in the upper lip. It was really bruised as well. Now I still have this bump- it's not big, but it is visible and it does bother me. I think it's granuloma. Should I wait and it might disappear or should I get steroid injection? Please just tell me what would you recommend I do. I am from Europe and really hope to travel to you for Silikon. Your work is absolutely amazing!

Thanks!

it is not a granuloma. it is a lump of restylane. just use vitrase a dissolver. it will be gone in 3 to 24 hours. it is so easy that i cannot think of a reason not to do it. i had a lady who was walking around for 2 years with a perlane lump in her upper lip since the injection (she had it done by a doc in dallas before it was FDA approved in the U.S.). i dissolved it with a small injection of hyaluronidase (brand: vitrase) and it was gone that evening. obviously, speak with a doc that knows what he or she is doing to dissolve it. in other words, find someone who frequently dissolves restylane or knows how to do it. hyaluronidase burns a lot especially in the lip. definitely find someone who knows how to do a dental block well. if they do that badly, then just dissolve it slowly without the block. look forward to do your silicone after you get your lips fixed.
best,
sml
