TCA Cross question

This section of the forum is dedicated to discussions on managing, treating, and correcting acne scarring. (Of note, Dr. Lam is focused principally on acne scarring rather than on managing the ongoing condition of acne, which a dermatologist would be better equipped to address.)

TCA Cross question

Postby imjayhawk » Fri Dec 14, 2007 9:08 am

Dr. Lam:

I happened to come across your YouTube video on TCA Cross after going through some discussions on it on Acne.org discussion forums. First of all - let me thank you for posting that video and the video of the hispanic person who got the treatment from you. There are so many treatments out there for acne scars and different people respond to those treatments differently that its really hard to decide what is right for you. By seeing the videos, I was able to expect exactly what the treatment would entail post operation if it can be called so.

My question is regarding the comment you made on skin types that you would do TCA cross on .. you said that it is safe for hispanic skin types, but you would not do it on African Americans or South Asian Indians. I'm from a country close to India and my skin color is very much like the women on your Youtube video - maybe a tad darker than her. I have lot of acne scars (ice picks, box scars) on my cheeks and forehead. Is it possible for you to decide if I'm a candidate for TCA cross without me having to come to Dallas (I'm in Kansas City)? Also, what would be the downtime since I can't afford to take many days off from work? I'm tempted to do Fraxel, but would like to do TCA cross before that if possible.

Thank you.

you can send me a photo to drlam@lamfacialplastics.com. i will make the decision by looking at it. the downtime is a week approximately each time minus also having potential for hyperpigmentation or darkening, which could last months. if you have larger holes you may need silicone micro treatments along with it or instead of it. check out my video on acne scarring virtual consultation for more detailed info.
