Facial Scar Revision

This section of the forum is dedicated to discussions on managing, treating, and correcting acne scarring. (Of note, Dr. Lam is focused principally on acne scarring rather than on managing the ongoing condition of acne, which a dermatologist would be better equipped to address.)

Facial Scar Revision

Postby lrelford03 » Mon Dec 22, 2008 12:54 pm

Hellow Dr.Lam, I have been reading on your web site and find it very informative, but I have some questions for you. I am a 20 year old white male, and about 7 years ago I was in a car accident. The accident left a scar on my left cheek. It was about a year after the accident I went to get a scar revision. I had the surgery and everything was fine untill one day i looked in the mirror and the scar was back and much worse than before. I waited another year and went to another surgeon to have the scar revision. I told this doctor what happend on the last surgery and he said that he was going to put stitches inside and outside of my face to help keep it closed. The surgery was good until i got the outside stitches taken off and then the scar came back.

Dr. Lam can you tell me why my scar keeps comming back after i have surgery is it possible i am opening the scar at night when i sleep or some other reason.

hmmm, that is a bit odd. you can look at a recent forum blog of a gentleman from the Middle East with the same problem. Obviously, I can't make any promises but I would do what I mentioned in the other posting, which is pretreat with Botox to minimize stretchback and get crazy with the deep sutures, then followed by taping every night and even day for the first 2 to 3 months. that is belt, suspenders, belt, suspenders, which in medical speak (not fashion speak) is a good thing to create a level of redundancy to secure against failure.
best,
sml
