This section of the forum is dedicated to discussions on various surgical techniques for facial rejuvenation, including fat transfer/fat grafting, browlift, blepharoplasty (cosmetic eyelid surgery), facelift, etc. Also, this category includes questions on hand rejuvenation via fat grafting. (Of note, Dr. Lam does not perform body rejuvenation except for hand fat grafting)
I know you cannot comment on other docs photos but one of the more famous NYC fat transfer docs has a post op 3 day photo that scared the hell out of me. This woman looks like she was severly beaten. Why would her post op be that bad? Was it something to do with the technique? Do your patients look like that at day 3? Would 13 days off of work be enough for me to get back to work and not looking obviously different? Those photos are enough to make me never want to do this procedure!
no, my patients NEVERRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRR look like that. i agree. please watch my recovery videos. oftentimes patients look really bad (in other doctors' hands for the following big reasons): 1. too much fat placed compared with what i do. i don't overstuff a face. 2. here is the biggie: lip augs with fat. HATE IT. 3 months of recovery with high resorption rate. no one can look like a blowfish with little gain and long recovery times. 3. gentle hand of a surgeon and refined cannulas. no doubt this is a biggie. even my local anesthesia goes in with a tiny cannula. no needles so bruising is really small amount. 4. i laser down bruising at 5 to 7 days to minimize even the small bruise. PLEASE WATCH MY DIARIES. THERE IS A LINK ON EVERY PAGE. best, sml
p.s.: most docs put fat in the lips and lines: two areas with marginal gains. even if you see improvements, here is a big question: is a doc just showing you closeup of lips and lines. WHO CARES??????????????????????????????? The question you need to ask is, "Am I seeing full face photos in which the patients look significantly younger, healthier, less tired, and in women, more feminine?" Or am I stretching to see that they look overall better not just that a line is filled or that a lip is fuller or that they actually look beautiful? let's judge what counts.

I thought cannulas are blunt and therefore cannot penetrate the skin. Also why would a cannula not cause bruising but a needle would? What's the difference?
Do you ever make recommendation of other doctors or is that something you cannot do? Texas is too far for me as I live in the Northeast.
1. i use a needle just to get through the skin, then all cannulas. 2. no, because a cannula should not pierce a vessel, bruising should be very minimal in most cases. 3. i really cannot make recommendations for other docs since what i offer is uniquely different in my artistic vision, execution, recovery, execution. 70% of my patients fly in for my fat transfer with a huge number coming in from the northeast and who fly out the next day. that is why i started the hospitality kit to make flying in easy. if you cannot fly in for a day or so for a result that will be with you for the next 30 days, then you have to figure out what you are willing and what you are not willing to do for your face. best, sml
