Salicylic applied focally...

Postby Mysteryagain » Sun Dec 14, 2008 9:12 pm

Dear Doctor, I was wondering...

When it comes to healthy skin that has a few large pores with stubborn blackheads or who seem to always have sebum in them that is hard or impossible to remove with the concentration of salicylic acid usually found in skin care products (since they are thought fo the entire face)... can a person apply with a toothpick, in the middle of the "open" pore / blackhead a higher concentration of salicylic acid? as if one was doing the CROSS method, just, not with TCA, only way lower percentages of salicylic acid and only to ge to dissolve die-hard blackheads and enlarged pores?
That way, only that pore/blackhead would be touched, and not the entire area, for which the salicylic might be too irritating.

Is that doable and safe?

honestly, i have no idea. usually to close a pore, you need some intense acid to do the job. salicylic acid is like water in most cases. however, i might be totally wrong in this case since my response is basically conjecture. as much as i appreciate the questions, i really am not a dermatologist nor an aesthetician so i cannot answer these questions based on my fund of knowledge. sorry.
best,
sml
