dimples/fat grafting

This section of the forum is dedicated to discussions on various surgical techniques for facial rejuvenation, including fat transfer/fat grafting, browlift, blepharoplasty (cosmetic eyelid surgery), facelift, etc. Also, this category includes questions on hand rejuvenation via fat grafting. (Of note, Dr. Lam does not perform body rejuvenation except for hand fat grafting)

dimples/fat grafting

Postby asian » Sun Nov 09, 2008 1:22 pm

Hi Dr Lam,

You are the best surgeron in the world!!! Not many surgerons are willing to spend time to create forum for patients like you, you are definitely the leader in facial surgery field. Congrad!!!! Oh....and Happy Birthday! (even it's a few days late to say HB, lol)

Let me tell you a bit about myself. I am a chinese girl in early 20s. I am a canadian resident, and i do plan to drive to Dallas TX.

I am just wondering how much does it cost to create 2 small dimples in cheeks?
I find that my under eye areas are hollow and need some fats.
Also, my cheeks & chin need some more volume to balance with the rest of the face.
I am hoping to correct that by fat grafting for permanent results. I know you can use injection too, but that wont last long and i dont feel more confortable injecting something into my face.
I noticed that you do this surgery to make the upper lips fuller by clipping small skin under the nose and sew them back together (basically to pull lips up) === sorry about confusion here

What is the cost for fat grafting? What is the cost for lips?
What is the cost for botox jaw reduction (perfer more than one shot, as i live really far)? (sorry to ask you all these costs questions here, as your website dont have a price range page)

How long do i have to stay in your office after surgery? How long do i have to wait before i can drive? How long do i have to stay in Dallas area?

For now, i really concern about the balance of my face and the early signs of aging of my sagging cheeks & hollow eyes & dimples creations. I hope you can help me. If possible i would like to show you some pics of my faces at different angles. But i dont feel confortable using this forum to post my pics up. Can you please forward your email that i can send you pics. Or i can open up a face book account and upload pics there and i will add you, so you can see my pics. Both case, i need your contact email. Hope you dont mind.

Thanks for reading. Have a great day. Keep up the great work!!!!

hi,
thank you for the kind words. before we begin i have a few concerns. fat grafting is very safe in my hands but whenever i deal with a very young lady such as yourself, things will change over your lifetime including metabolic slowdown, weight gain, and you will have kids i assume down the road meaning you will swell up a bit during that time since fat is a live graft. i take fat transfer very seriously and have had a very safe record because of that. it is not that i would not do someone as young as you but most likely i would need serious consultation time with you as well as conservative expectations for long-term safety. that being said, i just did an FT on a 32 year old lady from up north. now that i have sufficiently frightened you, if you are still interested we can discuss these matters in greater detail with a phone consultation.

as far as costs, etc., you will need to email constanze@lamfacialplastics.com (you can also send her your preliminary photos). i have been forbidden to post any further prices on this website. also, all previous posting for prices should be disregarded. i want to respect what my staff has asked me to do. as far as dimples, i really do not like performing 2 sides (although i have) because to attain symmetry is very hard even if you tell me you don't care the dimples being symmetrical (trust me you do). as far as how long to stay after surgery, it depends on your procedure. without sedation (dimples, botox), you can fly out back the same day. for FT, you will have to stay a few days.
best,
sml

Hi Dr Lam, Thanks for your opinions!
Just a few more questions for you.
1) Like you said, if 2 dimples are performed, it's very hard to get them equal in shape + size. But i would rather do two, i dont care much if they dont look a like, as long as they are small and not large. I believe there are nothing are perfectly symmetric, for example, eyes, noses, breasts, mouth, ears, are all a little smaller or look a little different than one another even on the same person.

2) How can you help young asian females who wants a tiny little volume on cheeks and chin? (i know the best answer is see you in person, but can i please hear your opinion first)

How can you make the lower eyelid look a little better due to lack of fat in that area?

3) When are you book up to on your consulation / surgery appointment? Are you planning to take anytime off during the holidays this year Dr. Lam?

Okay, I just know from experience that patients that tell me they don't care about symmetry care about it afterward because they can be more than little asymmetric. I have done many 2 sides but would highly recommend one side.

We can either go with a temporary filler like Perlane/Restylane or obviously if you can afford the fat, I can do a conservative fill.

How can you make the lower eyelid look a little better due to lack of fat in that area? See above.

3) When are you book up to on your consulation / surgery appointment? Are you planning to take anytime off during the holidays this year Dr. Lam?
I am booked out until mid to late January right now but we have a waiting list. I am not taking almost any time off for the holidays except Thanksgiving Day and Christmas. The demand is too high for me to take time off now.
best,

Hi Dr Lam,
Thanks for your advices again. Truly appreciate.

1) 'if you can afford the fat, I can do a conservative fill' ---what is a 'conservative fill'? What do you mean by 'if you can afford the fat', like do you mean if i have the fat in my body to be taken out for the face or is fat grafting really expensive? or both??
I think i do have the fat from my stomache, as i am kinda medium size with minor belly fat. I am about 5'3" 120-125 lbs. You probably can take some from my neck, as i am kinda chubby there.

Can fats be injected into chin & undereyes too besides cheeks? I really find that my cheeks are so flat and they start to sage. i hope adding volume will help. i dont know if botox is needed or not.

2) Regarding the dimples, i still want to do 2 dimples, as i believe 2 are cutier and brings good luck. I really appreciate your recommendation. i promise if 2 dimples are not perfect symmetric, i wont blame you. But honestly, i really dont care if they dont look alike, as long as they are not big. I like small dimples. (i will show you pics if come into your office)

3) Botox jaw reduction
Do you see result right away? Or do you have to wait to see result? What is the max shots that you can inject in?

4) Travelling
Like i said i am from Canada. I am hoping to drive in to Dallas Tx. So how many days do i have to stay in area? Can i drive after fat grafting, dimples and maybe botox jaw reduction?

5) Payment
I noticed that you will have to pay a small fee if i pay by credit card. I am hoping to bring in a money order to you. Can you let me know approx how much it will be? II can pay the difference by credit card or debit card if my money order is smaller than the actual cost. i am hoping to have the money order before i come in to dallas, USA

6) Consulation/ Surgery
Like i said, i am from Canada. So i am hoping to have the consulation and surgery as close as possible. There is really no point for me to drive 4000 kms for a consulation and come back and have surgery later. Dimples and botox are really small surgery, so can it be performed on consulation after seeing me and examine my facial features. How about fat grafting for the cheeks or injections if if you think it's better.

I'LL TAKE A LOOK.

YES. BOTOX IS STRICTLY FOR WRINKLES NOT HOLLOWS.

THE PROBLEM IS DOING DIMPLES AND FAT AT THE SAME TIME. THE SWELLING FROM THE FAT WILL PROBABLY POP THE DIMPLES. I WOULD DO THE FAT FIRST BECAUSE MY CANNULA CAN BREAK THE SCAR HOLDING THE DIMPLE (THEORETICALLY). I WOULD WAIT MANY MONTHS BETWEEN PROCEDURES TO BE SAFE UNLESS I DON'T DO THE PART OF THE FACE WHERE I AM DOING THE DIMPLES. THAT COULD BE POSSIBLE IF WE ARE CONSERVATIVE AND YOU DON'T NEED THE FAT THERE.

3) Botox jaw reduction
Do you see result right away? Or do you have to wait to see result? What is the max shots that you can inject in?
IT TAKES 6 WEEKS TO BEGIN TO SEE IT AND IT LASTS BETWEEN 6 MONTHS TO A YEAR. SHOTWISE, I WILL TAKE A LOOK AT YOU.

4) Travelling
Like i said i am from Canada. I am hoping to drive in to Dallas Tx. So how many days do i have to stay in area? Can i drive after fat grafting, dimples and maybe botox jaw reduction?
WOW, THAT IS A LONG DRIVE. I DON'T KNOW IF I CAN SAFELY MAKE ANY RECOMMENDATIONS TO DRIVE THAT FAR BACK AFTER ANESTHESIA. YOUR EYES WILL BE SWOLLEN. YOU COULD BE A BIT TIRED. I WOULD RECOMMEND EITHER FLYING DOWN OR HAVING SOMEONE DRIVE YOU DOWN. A LONG DRIVE BY YOURSELF AFTER THOSE PROCEDURES IS SIMPLY NOT WISE.

5) Payment

I HAVE STATED NOW THAT I CANNOT ANSWER SUCH QUESTIONS IN THIS FORUM BASED ON REQUESTS BY MY OFFICE STAFF. YOU CAN EMAIL CONSTANZE OR MARCY @LAMFACIALPLASTICS.COM TO ATTAIN THAT INFO.

FAT IS SOMETHING WE NEED TO MAKE ADVANCED ARRANGEMENTS FOR. DIMPLES AND BOTOX ARE DOABLE AND YOU CAN ALSO DRIVE BACK SINCE THEY ARE BOTH UNDER LOCAL. NO SUTURES HAVE TO BE REMOVED. YOU COULD DRIVE BACK SHORTLY AFTER THE PROCEDURE IF YOU ARE FEELING UP TO IT. I WOULD RECOMMEND A PHONE CONSULT FIRST IF YOU ARE CONSIDERING THE FAT TRANSFER.
