Hotels and general tips

Almost every single day a patient flies in (or drives a long distance) from another part of Texas, another state, or from another country. As a component of the new hospitality kit, Dr. Lam has created this section to allow peer-to-peer sharing of what worked and what didn't regarding your travel to Dallas so that his out-of-town patients can help each other out.

Hotels and general tips

Postby datayers » Sat Nov 08, 2008 11:05 pm

I live in San Antonio and have been to Dallas a few times to see Dr. Lam. Here are some tips you might find helpful.

Hyatt Place: This place was nice. The room set up is cool because it has a little partition between the sleeping area and the living area. They also have a tv in the room that integrates with your mp3 player or portable dvd player which is great if you are traveling with children. If I was traveling to Dallas alone and was only staying one night (and didn't want to spend a lot of money), I'd probably stay here again.

Westin Stonebriar: Beautiful hotel! Superior service. Lots of amenities including valet parking (for a fee), nice restaurant, bar, gift shop and coffee shop. We preferred this hotel over Hyatt Place because it offers room service and is really more of a full service hotel. They even gave my 3 year old a cute little bag with games and a hat when we checked in! Prices are higher but worth it. Next time my husband is bringing his golf clubs because they have a golf course right behind the hotel!

Another travel tip when going to see Dr. Lam is be prepared for the toll roads if you are driving. It's a good idea to have some change in your car so you don't have to look for it while driving. I think most tolls were $1.00 but you can't use dollar bills so have some quarters ready in your side door pocket! :-)

We enjoyed both the Stonebriar and Willow Bend Malls. We were impressed how the Stonebriar mall has "family bathrooms" which is always a plus. They both also have fun little indoor play areas for kids. My husband would just take the kids shopping while I was at my appointment and then I'd call him when I was done. Very handy to have so many nice malls close to Dr. Lam's office! Next time I think my husband wants to have a massage at the spa in Dr. Lam's building.

If I think of anything else, I'll be sure to post here. :D
