Hello, I have been suffering from chronic/worsening of the insides of my lips for a year and a half now. It has constantly been getting worse, albeit at a slow rate, but after a year and a half, the swelling is really bothering me. I have tried taking high dosages of steroids such as prednisone, steroid creams, many vitamins, and other medications. Nothing has ever taken down the swelling at all and it continues to get worse.
I have been diagnosed with sjogren's and have effectively been treating the dry mouth symptoms but nothing is reversing or stopping the thickening of my mouth. I am severely uncomfortable and depressed by this and I feel like there is no hope to restoring my lips. I fear they will continue to swell up even worse and I will eventually be unable to operate in society at all.
I have asked about getting kenalog injections into my lips to reduce the swelling but my oral surgeon is still reluctant to try this procedure. I will send you some photos of my mouth so you can see exactly what I am talking about.
I desperately want to know if there is any medications that may help with this or if you believe a steroid injection could assist me? Also, how are kenalog injections administered into someone's lips? Is it just one injection into the lower? Or is it like 12 injections spread across the length of the lip?
Please help me.
