otoplasty surgery

Postby jesus5311 » Fri Mar 01, 2013 10:19 am

Hi,

Dr, i had otoplasty performed two weeks ago. And im not very happy with my results. I think my ears were pinned back to close to the head on the upper half of the helix. When u see me from a front view all u see is antilelical fold. And the fold is thick and looks unnatural like it was just stitch back. What should i do. Is it possible to remove stitches from top part of helix to release it a little and it comes out. Its my left ear the the fold is more prominent

typically, yes, you can remove sutures but you really need to ask your surgeon this question.

Now, is it the actuall incision that gets reopen or the sutures inside the ear that get re arranged

typically suture removal is relatively much easier than the otoplasty itself.

Dr.
So if my ears were over corrected and to close to head, how long should i wait before removing or loosening sutures in cartilage. It will be 1 month when i go for my follow up. When does tissue start to form, and will be too late to loosen or remove sutures. One last thing, does the whole incision need to be reopen for this procedure,

Thanks alot for your help.

again, this must be asked to your doctor. it all depends on how the ear was softened. sometimes if the ear is completely softened, a week later, it will already be hard to relax it. sometimes by the method used, you could take out sutures a month or two later and it will still relax. i have seen both because i have used both methods to do this. you MUST ask your surgeon this question because it depends on HIS experience and what method he used. i really CANNOT answer these questions because they really are not fair to you nor to your surgeon.

Sorry if i didnt explain my self, i mean by ur experience and what u know, should i talk to my dr about maybe loosening or removing sutures now, or should i wait 2 more months for my follow up. Ive read that when overcorrected is better to release sutures as soon as possible before too much scar tissue forms.
Thanks again

some doctors overcorrect because they expect some loosening. others do not overcorrect because they get it just about right. you need to talk to your doctor about whether to loosen the ears or not. that is something that is between you and him.
