Noticable red scar on nose after stitches from a deep cut

Postby highlineandy » Tue Feb 12, 2013 10:11 pm

Hi Dr. Lam,

I was involved in a car accident 3 months ago and my nose was hit and got a very deep cut, i went to a plastic surgeon and got stitched up. After the stitches were removed the doctor gave me Onshore tretinoin cream, bleaching cream, biocorneum gel and I've been using them religously along with 3m tape on the scar. I know its been only 3 months but its showing only very minor improvements. My job requires meeting with clients daily and its been tough for me to keep the tape on all the time. What can i do at this point to speed up the recovery and get rid of the scar and redness? Is it too soon for laser or any other treatments? Thank you.

Andrew

you need to ask your surgeon but you could consider silicone gel instead of tape during the day. that may be more discreet. i personally do not think laser is too soon if you are talking about IPL/KTP type lasers that are meant to help scarring and not resurface the scar. resurfacing i would wait probably until at least 6 months but that is just my opinion.
