Dr Lam,
I had cheekbone implants put in about 12 years ago. Now that I have aged I am looking for a more rounder shape around the cheekbone to break up a longer face. Is fat grafting applicable to that. Also if it is what does the injected fat feel like. Is it hard and how deep is it injected.

I know chin implants are available in various materials such as silicone, goretex, and porex. I spoke to an implant doctor who uses only porex instead of silicone. As I understood it, the arguments for porex were:

- less bone resorption
- less risk of infection
- because of tissue ingrowth, the implant is more stable and less likely to migrate
- feels more like bone
- can be carved for custom fit
- less ...

I know an implant can increase the projection of the chin, but can it also increase the height?

Most of the articles I've read say chin implants cannot increase the vertical dimension of the chin. These articles also say this can only be accomplished via sliding genioplasty.

Hi I was wondeirng what the advantages and disadvantages were to genioplasty vs. chin augmentation. Is a genio normally done for someone who has sever recession of the chin but whose bite is normal vs. a chin implant for someone who just needs a little? Which is generally safer?
